After the wildfires in Sweden, which are still going on, now Greece. 🙁

In this weather, a cigarette butt is enough to start a fire. A tiny spark would do.

I’ve seen the weather forecast for Germany – and right now it might happen here easily too.

The Copernicus Emergency Management Service monitored a Forest Fire earlier this month in Saxony-anhalt, Germany http://emergency.copernicus.eu/mapping/ems/copernicus-emergency-management-service-monitors-forest-fire-saxony-anhalt-germany

Thankfully the situation was quickly under control https://www.zdf.de/nachrichten/heute-sendungen/videos/waldbrand-sachsen-anhalt-102.html

But you are absolutely right, at the current conditions it doesn’t take much at all. These extreme weather events do get a lot more frequent recently.

Meanwhile the situtaion in Athens, Greece has gotten a lot worse and the Greek government has now officially asked the EU for help.

I am afraid, at this rate it will be a while before these courageous firefighters will get some well deserved rest. ☹

Global CO2 levels above 400ppm, except in Wakanda.

Looked up recent CO2 measurements from the European Copernicus satellite program.

And noticed that the entire world was above 400ppm except a small green patch in the middle of Africa.

Which just happens to be the same position that Marvel choose as the location for the fictional Sub-Saharan African nation of Wakanda in the MCU.

On a more serious note, the reason for this is most likely the tropical forest absorbing the CO2. The truly worrying part is the fact that we are now way past the 400ppm threshold, maybe permanently, set by scientists as the point of no return.

And if you don’t trust the Europeans, the data from the American program (which Trump just cancelled funding for) confirms this:

A workmate of mine, who actually did climate modelling as part of his PhD, made me aware to also keep an eye on Methane, which is a much more potent green house gas with devastating impact on marine life. It is mainly produced by life stock. The upside about this is that if we stop emitting it will relatively quickly leave the atmosphere.

By the way, atmospheric measurements are just a small part of the Copernicus program.
