UK people

veronica-rich:

Who was the person I saw on my dash who said that Boris Johnson was only chosen as his party’s leader, not the UK prime minister? Because I could swear I read in the news that that’s exactly what he is.

Am I wrong? Is the news wrong? Help me, Obi-Wan.

The way the Parliamentary system works means that voters vote for people representing their local constituency. Whichever party has the most MPs elected typically forms a government.

The party leader becomes the Prime Minister if the party is in government.

Because the Tories are the party of government, while the election was specifically about who will lead the Conservative Party, by default that person then becomes Prime Minister.

Because apparently this is a good way of running governments.
